Flagstaff Signage

One of the great parts of travel is taking photographs….I would much rather be on a hike snapping photos of mountains, the ocean or trees. BUT I have always enjoyed roaming around towns and taking photos of vintage signs and such…

Route 66 is pretty much the definition of Americana, and even though its not the well traveled byway of the 1960s there is still alot of history that remains….Both Flagstaff and Williams AZ have kept much of the old Route 66 feel and I enjoyed taking shots of the old signage during my visit.

Williams AZ was actually the last stretch of the highway that closed. The outdated, poorly maintained vestiges of U.S. Highway 66 completely succumbed to the interstate system in October 1984 when the final section of the original road was bypassed by Interstate 40 at Williams, Arizona.

The highway from Chicago to LA is now a memory with its old signage remains!! Enjoy the photo gallery.
